HEALTH ADVISORY - ACTION IS OPTIONAL
Turbidity has no health effects. However, turbidity can interfere with disinfection and provide a medium for microbial growth. Turbidity may indicate the presence of disease-causing organisms. These organisms include bacteria, viruses, and parasites that can cause symptoms such as nausea, cramps, diarrhea and associated headaches.

Major sources in drinking water:
Soil runoff
Treatment options:

TREATMENT OPTIONS
Turbidity can result from poor well development or a well subject to influx of surface water. Proper physical cleaning and disinfection of the well may reduce turbidity problems. Continued problems with turbidity may be a sign of deterioration of the well casing or infiltration from unwanted water sources. Treating well water with filtration and continuous disinfection systems may reduce the effects of high turbidity but it will not prevent them. Eliminating the source of the problem is the only way to correct turbidity problems.
