The Mahoning River Consortium (MRC) is a local, grassroots organization dedicated to improving the quality of life in the Mahoning Valley by promoting the wise use of the Mahoning River and its watershed. The MRC is a very diverse group of people who are involved in many projects and partnerships.
The Mahoning River Consortium (MRC) advocates research, multiple-use planning, educational, recreational, social and economic activities that will positively impact the quality of life along the river. The MRC is a 501(c)(3) organization with approximately 80 members; the MRC distributes information via e-mail to over 350 individuals and organizations.
The general purpose of the MRC is to restore, maintain and enhance the environmental quality of the Mahoning River and its watershed by promoting the wise management of the Mahoning River Basin through the development of a network of diverse groups and organizations working with the common goal of improving the quality of life in the Mahoning River Valley and ultimately achieving a balance between the economic and social needs of the community while promoting the wise use of the Mahoning River and its watershed.
The MRC in association with the Eastgate Regional Council of Governments and the Western Reserve Port Authority are working with the Pittsburgh District of the United States Army Corps of Engineers to implement the Mahoning River Ecological Restoration project which when completed will provide for the removal of contaminants from a 31 mile stretch of the Mahoning River from northwest of Warren to the Ohio/Pennsylvania state line.
