Profile:

The Miami ConservancyDistrict(MCD) is a watershed-based organization established in 1915 to provide flood protection for the Miami Valley after the Great Flood of 1913. In addition to flood protection,MCDplays an active role preserving floodplain, building a network of recreation trails and river access sites along the river corridors, and monitoring the quality and quantity of surface and groundwater resources.MCD works collaboratively with other local watershed coordinators and community leadersto make a positive impact on water resources in the Great Miami River Watershed.

MCD, along with the Miami Valley Regional Planning Commission, facilitates the Great Miami River Watershed Network. The Network is a clearinghouse organization that gives participants opportunities to discuss items of mutual concern, share ideas, and effectively leverage resources in the Great Miami River Watershed, primarily water resource-related. Participants include watershed coordinators, soil and water conservation professionals, environmental planners, representatives from local governments, businesses, state and federal agencies, universities — and anyone who has an interest in the Watershed. The participants determine the mission and strategic plan for the organization through a consensus-building process. The Network meets quarterly at locations throughout the Watershed. Upcoming meeting dates and locations are posted on the Network's website: http://www.miamiconservancy.org/water/gmrw_network.asp
