In 1997, members of the Maumee RAP Dumps and Landfills Action Group spearheaded an initiative in the Duck and Otter Creeks watersheds. In April 1999, the Maumee RAP sponsored a Duck and Otter Creeks Stakeholder Summit and following the Summit, local stakeholders continued to meet regularily. In 2000, the non-profit Duck and Otter Creeks Partnership was officially established as a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. The Partnership consists of many businesses, industries, citizens, environmental organizations and all levels of government agencies. Much of the support for the Partnership is donated, such as the office space and supplies, and the salary match and operating expenses are donated by the participating companies and organizations. The Partnership has sponsored two watershed tours for the members, increased their charter-signing members, and worked with BP to develop a local Community Project. In 2004, the Partnership authorized a modified risk assessment for both creeks as the first step in identifying the degree that the sediments are impacted by 100 years of pollution by heavy industry in the watershed. The board has also authorized a wetland restoration project in the City of Northwood, Ohio at the headwaters of Otter Creek. Our ongoing activities include: Participation in the planning and execution of the Clean Your Streams events and the Storm Drain Stenciling campaign. The Partnership also presents educational programs at the Oregon Fest each year. Listing Updated: 2008-01-31
