Watershed(s) of Focus: Federal Creek Counties in Coverage Area: Athens, Morgan, and Washington P.O. Box 157Phone: (740) 767-4938 Email: fvwg@federalcreek.org Website: www.federalcreek.org Profile: Federal Valley Watershed Group seeks to engage watershed residents and other stakeholders in a collaborative effort to improve stewardship of water resources and promote income opportunities based on sustainable use of the area's wealth of natural, cultural, and historic resources. After several years of hard work collecting and compiling water quality data and surveying residents about water quality concerns, the Federal Valley Watershed Group (FVWG) is now geared up to begin working on the priorities established in the watershed action plan that was completed in 2006. Some of the top concerns identified in this process include stream bank erosion, sediment and trash in the creeks, pollution from failing septic systems and livestock in the creeks, and lack of trees along streams to act as buffers for stormwater runoff. FVWG is working with landowners to find solutions to these water quality concerns by planting trees along streams, developing off-stream watering sources for livestock, conservation easements, and other tools.
