Watershed(s) of Focus: Huff Run Counties in Coverage Area: Tuscarawas, Carroll P.O. Box 55Phone: (330) 859-1050 Email: maureen@ruralaction.org Website: www.huffrun.org Profile: Meetings are typically held the 3rd Tuesday of each month at 5:30 PM in the Mineral City American Legion Hall. Please call to confirm meetings. Mission Statement: To restore the Huff Run watershed by improving water quality and enhancing wildlife habitat, through community support and involvement. The Huff Run Watershed has many impairments including acid mine drainage, illegal dumping, broken riparian buffers, poor maintenance of home septic systems and local sewer systems, irresponsible and excessive oil and gas development, and agricultural impacts. We organize Fun Days every year in August in which our group along with community businesses and organizations set up booths in Mineral City Park with food and games. We also hold annual Awareness Days for middle school classes in May. These have become a popular spring field trip where the children learn about stream quality and what the HRWRP is doing to help their environment in the battle against acid mine drainage. We also hold litter pick up days, tree planting days and other scattered events. Volunteers and visitors are always welcome. We are more than half way through with our watershed plan. We have had many successful restoration projects and are planning more. Listing Updated: 2005-08-02
