Please join us for this introductory-level training about the Clean Water Act's wetland and stream alteration permit program. If you are concerned about development and other alteration activities affecting wetlands, streams or lakes in your area, you need to be familiar with Section 404 of the Clean Water Act, which regulates dredging and filling of wetlands and streams. This webinar will cover when a 404 permit is required, what the permit requires, and how you can influence the permitting process. We will also briefly cover the state's role in 404 permitting (401 water quality certification) and how you can engage in that process. Resources for learning more about the Act's 404 program and Ohio's related programs will also be provided.

Dan Mecklenburg, Ecological Engineer with the Ohio Department of Natural Resources will present results from a three year study assessing the ecological integrity of more than 50 stream restoration projects that were implemented around the state of Ohio. The presentation will discuss the criteria used to evaluate ecological integrity, factors that lead to project success and failure, and why he argues for the use of a broader set of standards for selecting, designing, and evaluating stream restoration projects. This is a repeat presentation of the webinar that took place on October 19, 2011.

Nutrient runoff from agricultural watersheds presents a challenge for watershed managers as well as farmers. In this webinar you will learn how the risk of phosphorus moving into water is assesed in Ohio. The strengths, limitations and plans for validation/revison of Ohio P management tools. Libby Dayton, a research scientist with Ohio State University's School of Environment and Natural Resources (SENR), will discuss the Phosphorus Risk Index, a field-based planning tool that integrates soil properties, hydrology and agricultural management practices to assess the risk of phosphorus movement from soil to water.
